World War II and the emergence of the Invaders	1941-45	Captain America, Bucky Barnes, the Original Human Torch and his mutant ally Toro, and Namor form the primary members of the Invaders (Giant-Size Invaders#1, June 1975) with later additions of British heroes Union Jack (Invaders #8, September 1976) and Spitfire(Invaders #11,December 1976). Back in America, the Liberty Legion protects the homeland from incursion and Axis plots (Marvel Premiere #29/30, April/June 1976). In the final days of the Second World War, Steve and Bucky attack an island stronghold held by Baron Zemo and are apparently killed(The Avengers #4, 1964).
Emergence of the All-Winners Squad	1946	A short lived creation, this team was comprised of Captain America, Bucky, The Original Human Torch, Toro, Sub-Mariner, The Whizzer, and Miss America (All Winners #19-21, Fall-Winter 1946). As President Harry S. Truman does not wish the American people to know of the death of Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes following the recent death of President Roosevelt, Captain America and Bucky are actually the Spirit of '76 and a young man named Fred Davis.
Namor loses his memory	1958	An incident causes Namor to lose his memory, which he will not regain until soon after the formation of the Fantastic Four (Fantastic Four #4, May 1962).

Emergence of Iron Man	1963	Tony Stark creates his first suit of Iron Man armor following capture and a piece of shrapnel becoming dangerously close to his heart (Tales of Suspense #39, March 1963).
Emergence of Doctor Strange	1963	After years of mystical training following a quest to repair his broken hands, Stephen Strange becomes Earth's greatest defender against supernatural threats (First appearance in Strange Tales #110, July 1963, origins revealed in Strange Tales#115, December 1963).
Emergence of the X-Men andMagneto	1963	Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Beast, and Angel are brought together for the first time by Professor X. Re-emergence of Captain America	1964	Steve Rogers is awakened from suspended animation by the Sub-Mariner and found by the Avengers following their battle with Namor and a now enraged Hulk. He becomes core a member of the team (The Avengers #4, March 1964).
Emergence of Daredevil	1964	As a young boy, Matthew Murdock was blinded in a tragic accident, which also honed his senses to super-human levels. Now an adult, he embraces a super-hero career (Daredevil #1, April 1964).
The New Avengers	1965	With the exception of Captain America all of the Avengers resign, and he recruits a new team consisting of the Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver (both former members of the Brotherhood of Mutants), and Hawkeye, a mistaken villain by Iron Man (The Avengers #16, May 1965).
Reed Richards and Susan Storm's Wedding	1965	On the wedding day of Reed Richards and Susan Storm, Doctor Doom and an assembly of super villains (consisting of Attuma, Awesome Android, Beetle, Black Knight, Cobra, Diablo, Electro, Enchantress, Executioner, Grey Gargoyle, Human Top, some HYDRA agents, Kang the Conqueror, Mandarin, Melter, Mister Hyde,Mole Man, Porcupine, Puppet Master, Red Ghost and his Super Apes, Super-Skrull, and Unicorn) crash the wedding but are defeated by every super hero who was attending the wedding. This is the first time that every super character in the Marvel Universe at the time were gathered into one book (Fantastic Four Annual #3, November 1965).
Emergence of theInhumans	1965–1966	Johnny Storm meets Crystal who introduces him to her people the Inhumans. Not trusting Johnny, they fight him and the rest of the Fantastic Four until they find that they have to work together to defeat a common foe Maximus the Mad (Fantastic Four #45, December 1965).
The Galactus Trilogy	1966	The Silver Surfer arrives on Earth with plans for his master Galactus to destroy it, forcing the Fantastic Four to stop him and the Watcher to seriously break his code for the first time (Fantastic Four#48, March 1966).
Emergence of Black Panther	1966	Black Panther infiltrates the Baxter building to test his fighting abilities against the Fantastic 4. The first black superhero in mainstream American comics.(Fantastic Four #52, July 1966)
Emergence of Captain Marvel	1968	The Kree Empire sends Captain Mar-Vell to Earth as a spy. Coming to empathize with humanity, Mar-Vell betrays his orders and is welcomed as a hero by the people of Earth (Marvel Superheroes #18, January 1968).

Death of Gwen Stacy	1973	The Green Goblin returns and fights Spider-Man. As a result, Spider-Man's girlfriend Gwen Stacy, is killed when Spider-Man is unable to save her (The Amazing Spider-Man #121, June 1973).
Emergence of theSecret Empire	1974	Captain America follows a conspiracy all the way to the White House (Captain America and the Falcon #169-176, January-August 1974).
Emergence of The Punisher	1974	Vietnam veteran turned vigilante Frank Castle appears for the first time (The Amazing Spider-Man #129, February 1974)
Emergence of Wolverine	1974	Wolverine first appears (Incredible Hulk #180, October 1974). He attacks the Hulk, but is knocked out.
The Celestial Madonna Saga	1974	Kang the Conqueror invades Earth in an attempt to find the woman destined to birth the savior of the universe (The Avengers #129-135, November 1974-May 1975, Giant-Size Avengers #2-4, November 1974, February 1975, May 1975).
Giant-SizeX-Men	1975	Professor X assembles a new team to rescue the original X-Men. First appearance of Storm, Colossus, Thunderbird and Nightcrawler. Wolverine, Sunfire, and Banshee joins the X-Men (Giant Size X-Men #1, May 1975).
The Magus War	1975–1976	The Magus first appears as an evil future version of Adam Warlock(Appearance in Strange Tales #178-181, 1975. Origin in Warlock #9-15, 1975, Marvel Team Up #55, Avengers Annual #7, Marvel Two-In-One Annual 2 ).
Phoenix Saga	1976–1977	The Phoenix is released for the first time in the Marvel Universe, in the form of Jean Grey (story arc begins in X-Men #101, October 1976).
Eternals Saga	1976–1980	Two parts: The Eternals vol. 1 #1-19 and The Eternals Annual was the first appearance of the Eternals (comics), Deviants, and Celestials. The Second part, starting in Thor Annual vol. 1 #7 and continuing in Thor vol. 1 #283-301 where the charters and looming crisis from the Eternal comics are transplanted into the Marvel Universe. As well, it is revealed to Thor startling revelations about Asgard, Odin, and his mother.
The Korvac Saga	1978	The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy track down a mysterious threat from the future (The Avengers #167-168, #170-177, January-February, April-December 1978).
The Proteus Saga	1979	Proteus, the son of Moira McTaggart, attempts to escape his imprisonment on Muir Island in order to find his father(story arc begins in Uncanny X-Men #125, September 1979).
The Dark Phoenix Saga	1980	Jean Grey becomes the Dark Phoenix after being controlled by the Hellfire Club (Uncanny X-Men #129-137, January-September 1980).

Contest of Champions	1982	The Grandmaster and Death manipulate the heroes of Earth in a game to decide the fate of The Collector (Contest of Champions #1 June 1982).
Death ofCaptain Marvel	1982	The original Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) falls victim to what the Kree call "the Blackend", or what is called Cancer on Earth (The Death of Captain Marvel, graphic novel, April 1982).
Surtur Returns	1983	Surtur forges a powerful mystic sword and returns to destroy Asgard against Thor, Loki, Beta Ray Bill, and Odin(The Mighty Thor #337-353, November 1983-March 1985).
Secret Wars	1984–1985	The Beyonder kidnaps selected heroes and villains of Earth to battle on a planet of his creation. Spider-Man finds his Symbiote costume. Doctor Doom steal the powers of the Beyonder, becoming almost god-like in the process, but is ultimately defeated by the present heroes (Secret Wars #1-12, May 1984-April 1985).
Hulk in Exile	1985	The Hulk had come to control his rage, but when it begins to slip away from him and he goes on an uncontrollable rampage, Dr. Strange banishes him to another dimension, while the Hulk and Bruce Banner become separated.
Secret Wars II	1985–1986	The Beyonder heads to Earth in a bid to understand humanity, creating a human form for himself in the process.
Return of Jean Grey	1986	Jean Grey returns and is reunited with the original X-Men to form X-Factor. It is discovered that Jean was replaced with a cosmic entity called the Phoenix Force who placed Jean in a psychic cocoon. Thus, it was the Phoenix Force which became Dark Phoenix and committed suicide (from the humanity of Jean Grey to save the universe from the threat that Dark Phoenix posed).
Daredevil: Born Again	1986	Karen Page returns as a heroin addict and the Kingpin learns of Daredevil's secret identity (Daredevil #227-233, February-August 1986).
Mutant Massacre	1986	The Marauders kill most of the Morlocks. This event saw the first encounter between Wolverine and Sabretooth, though the pair had battled many times before (The Uncanny X-Men #210-213, The New Mutants #46, The Mighty Thor #373-374, X-Factor #9-11, beginning October 1986).
Kraven's Last Hunt	1987	The final battle between Kraven the Hunter and Spider-Man (Story arc begins in Web of Spider-man #31 and concludes in The Spectacular Spider-Man#132, October-November 1987).
Fall of the Mutants	1988	The X-Men are slain in Dallas during a cataclysmic battle against the Adversary. Cypher (of the New Mutants) dies battling the Ani-Mator. X-Factor (the original X-Men) battles Apocalypse and his Four Horsemen(The New Mutants #59-61, The Uncanny X-Men #225-227, X-Factor #24-26, Captain America #339, Daredevil #252, Fantastic Four #312, The Incredible Hulk #340, Power Pack #35, starting January 1988).
Armor Wars	1988	Iron Man embarks on a mission to destroy armored suits that were created from his own stolen technology (Iron Man #225-232, May 1987-July 1988).
The Evolutionary War	1988	The High Evolutionary unleashes attacks all over the world to guide the way of human evolution (Eleven part crossover starting in X-Factor Annual #3,including The Punisher Annual #1, The Uncanny X-Men Annual #12 and concluding in The Avengers Annual #17, September 1988).
Inferno	1988–1989	Demons from Limbo invade earth.
Atlantis Attacks	1989	Under the influence of Set the Serpent God, the Atlanteans launch a massive assault on the su***ce world.
Acts of Vengeance	1989–1990	Loki unites Doctor Doom, Magneto, Kingpin, Mandarin, Wizard, and Red Skull in a plot to use lesser enemies to defeat the superheroes that aren't their usual enemies. (Story arc begins in Avengers Spotlight #26, December1989).
X-Tinction Agenda	1990	The New Mutants and the X-Men are kidnapped and taken to Genosha, which culminates in their escape; the Genoshan government is overthrown (Story arc begins in The Uncanny X-Men #270, November 1990).

Infinity War	1992	Magus, Adam Warlock's "Evil Side", creates evil doppelgangers of Earth's heroes to gain ultimate power.
X-Cutioner's Song	1992	Stryfe arrives in the present to take vengeance against Cable & the X-Men by capturing his parents Cyclops and Jean Grey. The Legacy Virus is released during its epilogue (story arc begins in The Uncanny X-Men #294, November 1992).
Infinity Crusade	1993	Goddess, Adam Warlock's "Good Side", recruits an army of heroes to fight her holy war. Thanos and Adam Warlock unite to stop her.
Maximum Carnage	1993	The Carnage Family massacres downtown New York only to have Spider-Man and Venom in their way (story arc begins in Spider-Man Unlimited #1, May 1993).
Fatal Attractions	1993	Magneto returns more powerful and determined than ever, ripping the adamantium from Wolverine's bones and enraging Professor X. Colossus defects to Magneto's side (story arc begins in X-Factor #92, July 1993).
Wedding of Cyclops and Jean Grey	1994	Cyclops and Jean Grey are finally married marking one of the most important days for both the X-Men and the entire Marvel universe.
Phalanx Covenant	1994	The Phalanx race attacks Earth. Generation X is founded in its aftermath.
Clone Saga	1994–1996	The clone of Spider-Man, who was long thought dead, returns. His creator, the Jackal, also returns to wreak havoc in Spider-Man's personal life. Norman Osborne returns as the mastermind of this series of events (story arc begins in Web of Spider-Man #117).
Age of Apocalypse	1995	Legion travels back in time to kill Magneto, but accidentally kills his own father, Charles Xavier, creating a dystopian alternative timeline in which Apocalypserules the world (story arc commences in X-Men: Alpha, February 1995).
Onslaught Saga	1996–1997	The seed was planted when Xavier mind-wiped Magneto during Fatal Attractions, and he was born by the time warp of the Age of Apocalypse. Onslaught has arrived and defeating him results in the apparent "deaths" of many superheroes (X-Men #53, June, 1996, Onslaught: X-Men Special, August 1996, Onslaught: Marvel Universe, October, 1996).
Operation: Zero Tolerance	1997	In the aftermath of Onslaught, the U.S. government begins to round up mutants (story arc begins in X-Men #65, June 1997) .
Heroes Reborn	1997	The heroes who died during the Onslaught saga return from a Limbo created by Franklin Richards (Heroes Reborn: The Return #1-4, November, 1997) .
Contest of Champions II	1999	Earth's heroes are abducted and brainwashed with nanoprobes to participate in a fighting competition.
Apocalypse: The Twelve	2000	Apocalypse emerges once more, along with a mysterious prophecy of 12 powerful mutants capable of destroying him.
Maximum Security	2000	Fed up with Earth's interference in intergalactic affairs, the sta***ring alien community quarantines the Sol System and turns Earth into a prison for the universe's worst criminals.

Thor gains the Odin Force	2001	At long last Thor becomes the Ruler of Asgard, but at the cost of his father Odin who dies in a final battle with Surtur (Thor Volume 2 #36-44, 2001).
Eve of Destruction	2001	A cure for the Legacy Virus has been released, providing Magneto with a brand new army of healthy mutants ready to wage a final battle against humanity.
The Kang Dynasty	2001–2002	Kang and his son Marcus declare war on present-day Earth, killing everyone in Washington DC and briefly taking over the planet.
Infinity Abyss	2002	Mad partial-clones of Thanos try to destroy the universe.
Avengers Disassembled	2004	Scarlet Witch goes insane and kills or incapacitates the current Avenger-roster, bringing to an end the Avengers as we knew them (main story-arc in Avengers #500-503, Avengers Finale, September-December 2004.). Meanwhile Thor brings about the end of Asgard (Thor #80-85, 2004).
Secret War	2004–2005	Nick Fury brainwashes several heroes in secret to start a secret war against Latveria, who he believes has been selling high-tech weaponry to super villains (Secret War #1-#5, Secret War: From the Files of Nick Fury (2005).
Planet X	2004	The mutant Xorn launches attacks on New York City, culminating in the death of Jean Grey, and prompting Professor-X to step down as leader of the X-Men (New X-Men #150, February 2004).
New Avengers	2004–2005	Captain America begins to reform the Avengers after a mysterious attack at The Raft, a supermax prison, which freed dozens of super powered criminals (start of story arc in New Avengers #1, 2004).
X-Men: Phoenix - Endsong	2005	Jean Grey is resurrected by the Phoenix Force and becomes Dark Phoenix. The love that Cyclops and the X-Men have for Jean helps Jean take control over the Phoenix and merge with the Phoenix Force into one being, as was their destiny. Jean is now the White Phoenix of the Crown, ruler of all former Phoenix hosts and the highest avatar any Phoenix wielder can become.
House of MandDecimation	2005	The Scarlet Witch alters reality, creating a world in which mutants are in charge but ultimately resulting in the population of the world's mutants brought to near extinction (main story arc in House of M #1-8, August 2005-March 2006).
Spider-Man: The Other	2005	Spider-Man goes through a mysterious, life-changing event after facing the super villain Morlun (story arc begins in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1, December 2005).
Annihilation	2006–2007	Silver Surfer, Super-Skrull, Nova, and Ronan face the Annihilation Wave.
Civil War	2006–2007	Heroes are divided when the U.S. government passes the Super-human Registration Act. Captain America seeks freedom, while Iron Man seeks to institute the 50 State Initiative (main story arc in Civil War #1-7, July 2006-January 2007). Major events in the saga include Peter Parker's revealing his identity to the public (Civil War #2, August 2006) and Captain America's death (Captain America #25 (2007)).
Annihilation: Conquest	2007–2008	After the devastation of the wake of the Annihilation Wave, Nova, Starlord, Wraith, & a new Quasar (Phyla-Vell) lead a group of cosmic heroes against the Phalanx, who threaten to conquer and annihilate all of Kree space.
World War Hulk	2007	Following his exile into space (New Avengers: Illuminati One-Shot, 2006), The Hulk returns to Earth to exact revenge on those responsible (World War Hulk #1, August 2007).
Messiah Complex	2007–2008	When the first new mutant since M-Day is suddenly born, the X-Men, Purifiers and Mister Sinister go after it.
One More Day	2007–2008	Spider-Man accepts a devilish choice to rewrite his own history in order to save Aunt May while sacrificing the greatest love of his life in the process (The Amazing Spider-Man #544, November 2007).
Secret Invasion	2008	A stealthy invasion by the Skrull race has gone unnoticed for years, but there is an even more secret purpose behind it (main story arc in Secret Invasion #1-8, June 2008-January 2009).
Dark Reign	2009	In the aftermath of Secret Invasion, Norman Osborn grows to new heights of power as a beloved public figure taking over S.H.I.E.L.D. (re-christening the organization as H.A.M.M.E.R.), forming the Cabal, and founding the Dark Avengers (story arc begins in "Secret Invasion: Dark Reign", 2008 and "Secret Invasion #8", January 2009; Dark Avengers first appear in "New Avengers #50", 2009 and "Dark Avengers #1", 2009).
Messiah War	2009	Learning that Bishop was after Cable and the first mutant born since House of M, Cyclops had Beast develop time travelling devices so Cyclops could send his secret wetworks team, X-Force (consisting of Wolverine, Warpath, X-23, Domino, Vanisher, Archangel and Elixir) into the future after Bishop, hoping that they'll end the threat once and for all and the future of mutant kind will be safe in the hands of his son.
War of Kings	2009	Vulcan is rapidly expanding the Shi'ar Empire, while Black Bolt and the Inhumans become leaders of the Kree empire following the events of Secret Invasion, and a cosmic war begins, drawing in Nova, Darkhawk, the Starjammers, and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Captain America: Reborn	2009	The woman that "killed" Captain America is the key to bring him back.
Utopia	2009	California has become a troublesome state in the USA. The mutant riots lead to the entire area of San Francisco being put into martial law, and brings the rise of the "Dark X-Men."
Nation X	2009–2010	A mutant nation has been created on Utopia, off the coast of California.
Necrosha	2009–2010	The once Black Queen of the Hellfire Club brings forth a new Inner Circle of deadly mutants as well as a new threat to the entire mutant population as she sets her plan into motion of becoming a goddess.
Realm of Kings	2009–2010	The follow-up to War of Kings.
Siege	2009–2010	In the aftermath of Dark Reign, Norman Osborn invades Asgard.
Fall of the Hulks	2009–2010	The smartest minds in the Marvel Universe are being captured by a group known only as the Intelligencia which is a collection of some of the smartest supervillains in the Marvel canon.

2010s

Doomwar	2010	Black Panther, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and Deadpool wage war on the Latverian dictator Doctor Doom in an attempt to finally bring his empire down once and for all.
Second Coming	2010	The return of Hope Summers from the future. This event will conclude the trilogy (X-Men: Messiah Complex and Messiah War) that was focused on Hope, the first mutant born following the events of M-Day in 2005, which saw all but 198 mutants transformed into normal humans or dead.
The Gauntlet	2010	Each of Spider-Man's old enemies are attacking him under the orders of Kraven the Hunter's family.
Grim Hunt	2010	Following the events in "The Gauntlet," Kraven the Hunter's family comes after Spider-Man in a plot to revive Kraven.
Heroic Age	2010	With the Superhuman Registration Act abolished, a major change in the status quo of the Marvel Universe begins.
The Thanos Imperative	2010	Thanos has returned from the dead which prompted an important question: "What does this mean for the entire universe?".
World War Hulks	2010	The follow-up to Fall of the Hulks. The plan of the Intelligencia is put in action plus the identities of the Red Hulk and Red She-Hulk are finally revealed.

Chaos War	2010-2011	The Chaos King Mikaboshi, the living embodiment of the void before time and space began, has chosen to annihilate all reality and return the Marvel Universe back to its state of primordial darkness, thus launching a massive assault on Earth to wipe out all of existence with an army of thousands of alien deities at his back, forcing the remaining heroes, gods and cosmic beings, rallied by a restored Hercules, to join forces in an last desperate effort to stop him.
